West Wiltshire Leisure and Recreation Needs Assessment

In May 2007, the former West Wiltshire District Council published a leisure and recreation needs assessment, which was undertaken by Kit Campbell Associates. This study was used to inform the preparation of the West Wiltshire Leisure and Recreation Development Plan Document (DPD), which underwent an Examination in Public (EiP) in 2008. West Wiltshire Core Strategy Issues and Options

The second step towards the production of a core strategy for the west Wiltshire area took place between December 2007 and February 2008.

The former West Wiltshire District Council carried out another round of public consultation on an Issues and Options paper that took into account the responses to the previous consultation on issues affecting the west Wiltshire area and also proposed potential strategic sites options for housing and employment development.

In September 2008, a report on the issues and options consultation was presented to the West Wiltshire District Council Cabinet. Appendix 2 to this report suggested an outline spatial strategy, with regard to the role and function of the main settlements in west Wiltshire, and indicative housing allocations for the main market towns. This was based on the consultation responses and the draft Regional Spatial Strategy for the South West, which allocated 12,300 houses to the west Wiltshire area between 2006 and 2026.

West Wiltshire Core Strategy Issues

The first step towards the production of a core strategy for the west Wiltshire area took place between April and July 2007.

The former West Wiltshire District Council carried out a public consultation on spatial planning issues affecting the west Wiltshire area. This involved the publication of five issues papers, based partly on existing community area plans, a People's Voice questionnaire, a series of one-to-one meetings with key stakeholders, Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) meetings and invitations to landowners and developers to submit potential sites for future development.
