Consultation on the original Our Place in the Future stage of the South Wiltshire Core Strategy Development Plan Document (DPD) has now closed

Background

This first consultation stage in the development of the South Wiltshire Core Strategy took place between 26 July 2007 and 5 October 2007. It also invited comment on the next stage of the Salisbury Vision and is being used to support and inform a review of our Community Plans.

We asked local residents, together with local, regional and national organisations, for their views on how we should tackle a wide range of important and difficult issues. These included:

• Climate change and sustainability;
• Locating new development - including housing, employment, public services and more – and providing the infrastructure to support it;
• Providing decent and affordable housing;
• Sustaining a prosperous economy;
• Supporting safe and healthy communities and providing opportunities for all;
• Protecting the natural environment and our heritage;
• Promoting tourism, leisure and shopping;
• “The Community Chest” - making good use of money raised through the planning process;
• Upholding the highest standards in design of buildings and spaces;
• Meeting challenges such as flood risk;
• Increasing recycling and reducing waste.

What happened next?

In February 2008 a Preferred Options consultation document was produced, which took the 'Our Place in the Future' documents a stage further, in presenting more specific and detailed options for planning policy. The document highlighted those options which we considered were the most appropriate to pursue and we invited your comments.
