What is the SHLAA?
The Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA) provides information on a range of potential housing sites, covering both Greenfield and previously developed land and gives an indication of how dwelling requirements could potentially be met.
This evidence will be used to inform the Local Development Framework (LDF) Core Strategy and Site Allocation Development Plan Documents.
Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessments are expected to be updated as part of the Annual Monitoring Report (AMR) process.
To be able to respond to the Local Area Agreement National Indicator 159, data should be available for 31 March each year. As such it has been decided that in Wiltshire an annual update will be carried out reflecting the situation at this date.
How can I submit a potential development site?
The council invites submissions of potential development sites and maintains an ongoing ‘call for sites’ exercise. If you would like to submit a potential development site for consideration as part of the SHLAA, you can do this through one of the following ways:
- http://consult.wiltshire.gov.uk/portal - follow this link to our online consultation portal and complete an interactive version of the form
SHLAA Call for Sites Submission Form.pdf 91kb - print off this PDF version of the 'call for sites' form, which
you can then complete and return by post to the council
SHLAA Call for Sites Submission Form.doc 4.1mb - complete this WORD version of the form, which you can then attach
to an email and send electronically to the council
Previous SHLAA Studies
Prior to the creation of Wiltshire Council, in April 2009, there were two SHLAA processes undertaken in Wiltshire:
SHLAA for north, east and west Wiltshire
In May 2007, the former North Wiltshire, Kennet and West Wiltshire district councils, together with the former Wiltshire County Council, commissioned Roger Tym & Partners to undertake a joint Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA).
Further information about the SHLAA for north, east and west Wiltshire is available through the link below.
SHLAA for south Wiltshire
A report on the Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA) for the South Wiltshire area, relating to the former Salisbury District Council, was published in May, 2009. This SHLAA is part of the evidence base that informed the South Wiltshire Core Strategy.
Further information about the SHLAA for southt Wiltshire is available through the link below.
SHLAA for Wiltshire
Following Local Government Re-organisation a single SHLAA has been developed to cover the whole of Wiltshire. A revised methodology has been developed in liaison with the Housing Market Partnership and is available at the link below.
The assessment has been undertaken in line with this methodology. It was published in December 2011 and is available at the link below.
