Shortcuts for contaminated land

When submitting a planning application for development, you may be required to include a contaminated land study. This depends on whether there is a risk of land contamination and is also advisable in some circumstances when demolition is involved.

When a contaminated land study is required, the Local Planning Authority may consider an application to be invalid or it may be refused on the grounds of inadequate information, if one is not provided.

Government policy and guidance on contaminated land is set out in Planning Policy Statement 23: Planning and Pollution Control.
