Summary of Service
The legislation appertaining to the use and transport of radiological substances has ensured that incidents involving radiological release are extremely rare. The Wiltshire and Swindon Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) Guide produced by members of the Local Resilience Forum covers the procedures of all partner agencies when dealing with an incident involving hazardous materials such as chemicals and radioactive substances.
Details of Service
The HAZMAT Guide can be downloaded from the Wilshire Police website (under downloadable documents). The aim of the document is to provide a guide for a co-ordinated response to the management and containment of a HAZMAT incident in order to deal with and minimise:
- Preventing injury to the responding services
- Injury to casualties and the local population
- Damage to the built and natural environment
