The Traffic and Road Safety Group of the Environmental Services Department has responsibility for traffic management, road safety and street lighting within the county.
Details of Service
The road safety activities are primarily based on the following areas:
- Education
- Enforcement
- Engineering
Wiltshire has achieved significant casualty reductions and is making good progress towards the targets. Against the former Government target for 2000 we achieved a 50% reduction in those killed or seriously injured. Building on this previous success is a daunting task. The latest casualty data is given in the report 'Road Casualties in Swindon and Wiltshire' of particular importance is the Road Safety Strategy for Wiltshire formulated by the Wiltshire and Swindon Road Safety Partnership. This covers both activities for accident reduction and accident prevention to supplement the road safety work of the Government and other agencies.
