It is up to each household to make sure they recycle more and put less waste into landfill to help reduce the environmental impact on our county.

Landfill sites are filling up fast and in addition to the environmental impacts, the council faces high landfill tax costs associated with waste disposal. We also have EU targets that we must meet for landfill use and when we do not meet them we risk heavy fines.

All the recyclable materials collected from household recycling centres, kerbside collection and mini recycling sites in Wiltshire are taken to the Materials Recycling Facility near Calne to be divided up, packaged and sent onto companies that use the materials to manufacture new recycled products.

Wiltshire Council aims to increase household recycling rates from the current average of 40.5% to over 50%.

Please note: From early 2012 Wiltshire Council will be offering all households an optional non-chargeable garden waste collection service.
