Governor Services offers support and training to all Wiltshire governors. It also provides interested members of the public with further guidance on the role of governors as well as assisting in finding a placement at a suitable school.
Governor Services provides the following service to schools subscribing to Governor Services:
- Distance learning materials (including DIY training kits)
- A telephone/email helpline
- Regular electronic newsletters
- Guidance documents
- Access to the South West Grid for Learning (SWGfL) Governors' Community
- Clerks' surgeries
- EdExcel BTEC accreditation
- An email support network
- Conferences
Additional services free to all governing bodies:
You may be required to complete a criminal records bureau check on appointment if that is the governing body's policy. Refusal to do so will result in disqualification.
There is no direct cost to individuals for support and training once you become a governor. Schools can choose to subscribe to the service on an annual basis.
Anyone is eligible to be a governor who does not fall within the list of disqualifications (see 'A Guide to the Law for School Governors' (Department for Children, Schools & Families(DCFS).
