About this service
If you are looking for financial help for your studies at university there is a national scheme of funding which you can access through the Council's Student Finance Team (students who started their current course prior to September 2009) or through Student Finance England (students who began their studies in September 2009 or beyond)
The package of financial help available to higher education students is known as Student Finance and includes the following assistance:
- a non-income assessed loan for all or part of the course tuition fees
- a partially income assessed maintenance loan
- an income-assessed maintenance grant
- grants for students with dependants (including child care)
- non-income assessed Disabled Student Allowance
Students starting new courses of higher education in the 2009/10 academic year or beyond can apply for funding from mid February 2010 through Directgov - Student Finance.
Students who began their studies prior to September 2009 and who will be continuing in the 2010/11 academic year will receive details of how to re-apply for their financial support. If you do not hear anything by 1 April 2010 you should contact us.
