Shortcuts for schools musical instruments assisted purchase scheme

Pupils attending local education authority (LEA) maintained schools and receiving instrumental lessons at school from the Wiltshire Council Music Service can obtain music instruments through our Assisted Instrument Purchase Scheme at huge discounts, including full VAT reclamation.

All instruments supplied are new, of best quality and set up ready to play.

Rules

There are conditions to abide by to be able to use this scheme:

  • The pupil must be in full time education at a LEA school.
  • The pupil must be receiving tuition from a Wiltshire Music Service appointed visiting instrumental teacher.
  • The instrument must be appropriate to the pupil's needs - e.g. a beginner may not purchase a Stradivarius violin!
  • The instrument must be handed over from the school to the pupil in a teaching room.
  • The instrument must be charged to the pupil at or below cost.

Eligibility

Pupils attending LEA maintained schools and receiving instrumental lessons at school from the Wiltshire Music Service.

How to do this

  1. Talk to the visiting instrumental teacher or the music service office about the prospective purchase to ensure the correct choice.
  2. Choose the instrument required, complete the order form and return it to the school for the headteacher's signature along with your cheque (if applicable).
  3. The school will send the order form to County Hall. Telephone or faxed orders cannot be accepted.
  4. The instrument will be delivered to school within a few days to be handed over to the pupil.

This scheme is also available to buy an instrument as an outright purchase from a local retailer. If you are obtaining the instrument from a supplier of your choice take the order form to the shop, tell the retailer that you wish to purchase the instrument via the scheme, select the instrument you require and complete the relevant section on the form. Ask the retailer to sign or stamp it to confirm their quotation. Please ensure the price given includes delivery to the school and excludes VAT.
