In Wiltshire, responsibility for school catering is delegated to individual schools. Approximately half of schools (119) have chosen to participate in the county contract with Sodexho catering which requires that the government's nutritional standards are met.

Other schools have chosen to make their own arrangements, by managing school catering directly themselves, by working with other companies or through broader contracts for support services.

Councillors, through a Scrutiny Task Group, investigated the school meals provided through Sodexho in the spring of 2005, see Sodexho School Catering Final Report for more information.

The current DfES nutritional standards are published on the DfES website, and can be found at DfES nutritional standards website.

All schools in Wiltshire are encouraged to participate in Wiltshire Healthy Schools, which includes meeting local standards to promote healthy eating.
