Governor Services provides the following service to schools subscribing to Governor Services:
- Training and development seminars (unlimited access)
- Whole and cluster governing body development
- Programme for Chairs of Governors
- Regular briefing and updates
- A range of support services, including:
- Distance learning materials (including DIY training kits)
- A telephone/email helpline
- Regular electronic newsletters
- Guidance documents
- Support for your clerk including:
- Clerks' surgeries
- EdExcel BTEC accreditation
- An email support network
- Conferences
Additional services free to all governing bodies:
- A co-ordinated weekly mailing to clerks and a monthly summary of distributions
- A checklist of forthcoming legislation sent to clerks, governors and headteachers 3 times a year
- Advice on/support for governor and clerk appointments and all legal issues regarding governing body constitution and governing body procedures
- Welcome packs for new governors and new clerks
- Recruitment assistance including flyers and placement of prospective governors
Needs
You may be required to complete a criminal records bureau check on appointment if that is the governing body's policy. Refusal to do so will result in disqualification.
Payment
There is no direct cost to individuals for support and training once you become a governor. Schools can choose to subscribe to the service on an annual basis.
Eligibility
Anyone is eligible to be a governor who does not fall within the list of disqualifications (see 'A Guide to the Law for School Governors' (Department for Children, Schools & Families(DCFS).
