Guidelines for Parents

Young children should be taken to the bus stop and accompanied until the bus arrives.

Younger children should be met when the bus returns from school as they can often be excited and forget road safety as they get off the bus. Remember you are responsible for the safety of your child once they have left the transport

Read with your child the safety rules that are contained in the School Transport Bus Code.

Help bus and taxi drivers do their job. Remind children that playing about at bus stops and on buses can cause accidents and injuries and are a Health and Safety concern.

Make sure children know the safest route between home and bus stops. The shortest route may not be the safest. Be sure children know the safest place to cross busy roads. Use school crossing patrols where provided.

Encourage your children to wear seat belts where fitted.

Guidelines for Pupils

Never cross in front of or close behind a bus. You must be able to see clearly both ways.

Make sure that you arrive at the bus stop at least 5 minutes before the scheduled departure time.

Follow your parent’s instructions about where to go and what to do if the bus does not arrive within 30 minutes of the usual arrival time.

Please behave responsibly at all times when waiting for, getting on, and travelling on a school bus.

If you misbehave or cause damage to a bus, you may be excluded from transport and will also be responsible for the costs of any damage or vandalism.

Do not distract the driver, he needs to concentrate. Stay in your seat when the bus is moving.

You should ensure that you always have your bus pass with you and keep it available for inspection at all times.

Do not attempt to travel on a bus other than the one on which you have been allocated a seat.

Please make sure that the bus is left clean and tidy.

Wait until the bus stops before getting on or off. Never push or shove others on or near a moving bus.

Do not bully other pupils or use foul and abusive language.

Smoking is not allowed on school buses.
