About this service

There are around 220 Passenger Assistants, who are employed to accompany both children and adults with special needs on the journey between home and their service. The Passenger Assistant is the link between parents/carers and service provider staff and represent Wiltshire Council. They are there to ensure the passengers safety and wellbeing and that transport is a comfortable and happy environment.
We are responsible for the management of Passenger Assistants. A dedicated team provide support to the Passenger Assistants including recruitment and retention, relief cover, general advice, risk assessments and much more.
Passenger Assistants attend a full range of training including first aid, wheelchair restraint, disability awareness, contracts and the law and duty of care. Specific training is available to Passenger Assistants dependant upon the needs of the individuals they are responsible for, such as autism awareness or signing.
All Passenger Assistants must be checked by the Criminal Records Bureau, before being offered a contract of employment.
