The Capital Grant provided under the Government’s Travelling to School Initiative is no longer available. Schools who have received a Capital Grant and are yet to spend it may find the “Permitted Expenditure” download helpful. The Capital Grant is a form of Devolved Formula Capital and should be spent by the end of the third financial year following receipt.
Wiltshire Council’s Taking Action on School Journeys Challenge (TAOSJ) continues to offer funding for schools with an up-to-date, approved travel plan. The scheme is run on a bidding system and applications are scored according to a variety of relevant criteria, including the quality of the travel plan. The closing date each year is the last day of term in December, to access funds in the subsequent financial year. The works can be on the school site or on the highway. On-highway works are carried out over a two year period, with a feasibility study being undertaken in the first year to identify and cost options. Implementation of a scheme is not guaranteed, but such bids will receive priority in their second year. On-site works should be completed and invoiced for within the financial year.
The guidance notes set out the required content of an travel plan update, but you are encouraged to get in touch with your School Travel Adviser (STA) in the first instance.
The amount available is dependent on the number and quality of other bids. Please contact your STA for a form, or download it from this website.
More than one application may be made under TAOSJ.
