Primary SENCO Cluster Groups and the Primary SENCO Link Group
What are they?
Primary SENCO Cluster Groups and the Primary SENCO Link Group are a constructive way for SENCOs and other interested parties to discuss Special Educational Needs (SEN) related issues with the Local Authority (LA). They provide a non-confrontational setting for these partners to discuss and explore SEN issues and mutual areas of concern.
How are they organised?
Following consultation with primary schools, new arrangements were implemented in September 2006.
The Primary SENCO Cluster Groups meet three times a year and are based on the same organisational cluster model as the Specialist Learning Centres. They are organised into four districts: North; Salisbury; Kennet; and West. Meetings are organised and facilitated by representatives of Wiltshire Learning Support Service, and are open to SENCOs and other education professionals in primary schools, as well as to those in secondary/ early years settings. The dates, venues and topics for next year's meeting will be available here soon.
The Link Group also meets three times a year. Each Cluster Group sends a Link Representative and appropriate officers attend from the LA, according to the issues being raised. This enables countywide representation and provides a forum for direct discussion between SENCOs and the LA. In turn, this improves the knowledge and understanding of local and national issues surrounding SEN by all partners, informs future developments and improves outcomes for Wiltshire children.
