This new service is provided by Wiltshire Community Health Services (part of NHS Wiltshire). It has been jointly agreed and funded by the health service and the council, to provide a single service for children and young people with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) across Wiltshire.

Aims

The new county wide service aims to provide consistency and equality across Wiltshire, for children and young people with SLCN - with improved access to services and resources, easier referral systems and reduced waiting times.

What do we offer?

• Children and young people referred to the service are seen within eight weeks.
• Assessment of speech, language and communication needs – identification of the child's needs and the intervention required.
• Advice, training and support for families, carers and professionals.
• Access to a wide range of resources, including electronic resources via email or the NHS speech and language therapy website (Link as above)

How to access the service

Children and young people with SLCN can be referred to the service by schools and early years settings, in line with the agreed processes outlined in the Wiltshire Indicators and Provision Document (WIPD)

In addition, children and young people, parents and carers, school staff and other professionals can contact a specialist speech and language therapist directly, via the telephone advice line. To seek advice or discuss concerns, call 01225 761126 (Monday-Thursday 4.00-5.00 p.m.).

Speech and language therapists and assistants work in the most appropriate location to meet the service users’ needs, such as children’s centres, schools, hospitals, nurseries and health settings
