There are some twenty museums in Wiltshire, ranging from those run by volunteers in villages to large collections of national importance.

The museums are run by a variety of organisations including the County Council, The National Trust and private trusts. Many are operated by volunteers.

Many of the museums have a local focus as at Trowbridge and Warminster; while others are special collections like the Fire Defence Museum at Potterne, near Devizes.

In addition to the museums' permanent displays, there are often travelling exhibitions. The county Museum Service helps to run these as well as providing training and advice for the museum curators.

The museums have been divided up by District. Use the buttons to find out more about the museums in each district.
