Long Barrow Cross Roads Barrow Cemetery near Stonehenge is one of the most spectacular in Wiltshire. In addition to a substantial long barrow, there are several types of round barrow. These are described by the their shapes: bell barrows, disc barrows and bowl barrows.
During the nineteenth (19th) century Swindon grew into a major industrial town, providing railways and steam locomotives for much of the country. This engraving shows a locomotive being worked on, dwarfed by the early engine building shed inwhich it stands.
Fieldwalking provides much information about an areas archaeology by sampling what is turned up in the plough soil. Here a woman walks through an emerging crop while closely studying the ground to find artefacts.
