WCC Bridge Number C1/143
This report is for the week ending 16th November 2007.
The demolition of the old bridge deck on the southern half is progressing well and is almost complete;
The west pier crosshead beam and south west wingwall have been constructed;
The piling operations are now complete;
Supports have been constructed to enable the construction of the east pier cross head beam;
The steelwork construction for the east pier has commenced;
The upstream bridge parapet has been installed.
The piling sub-contractor has finished on site and the drilling rig and crawler crane have left the site;
Erection of the upstream parapet rails.
Cold, with occasional overnight frost.
Break out the piles to formation level on the east abutment;
Place bearing mortar on the west pier and abutment;
Concrete pour for the east cross head beam.
The works are running behind the original programme, although the road is expected to reopen under traffic management on 21st December.
Road drains to the west of the bridge that were exposed during excavation works caused some flooding to the west abutment area. Only minor delays were experienced before repairs were completed.
Closure of the parking on the Redrow site is causing congestion on the B4042.
The scheme is expected to be substantially complete, with traffic management removed, by the end of January 2008.
