Tannery Bridge Report No. 17 : 6th July 2007
Progress Report: Week 17 ending 6th July 2007
Summary of progress
- At the request of Mouchel, a safety inspection of the temporary road and
footway structures was undertaken by Alun Griffiths’ specialist sub-contractor. There were no
reported concerns but the loose (noisy) carriageway panels, identified during the inspection, will be
tightened by Alun Griffths.
- The working platform for the piling plant has been extended to accommodate the piling
operations through spans 1 – 4 (see photograph 4 below).
- Alun Griffths’ nominated piling sub-contractor established their piling equipment in Span
1, in readiness to start piling operations next week.
- Alun Griffths commenced damming operations to Spans 9-11 which were delayed from the previous
week because of additional piling operations
Notable Events
- The heavy weekend rainfall breached the existing damming arrangements and
flooded the site (see photograph 1 below). The flooding delayed site operations by approximately one
day; a delay that will not affect the delivery of the overall project.
Weather
Generally mild with heavy showers.
Planned works for week ahead
- The damming works to existing spans 9, 10 and 11 will continue.
- Subject to the progress of the damming works (above), demolition of spans 9 to 11 will
start together with the removal of the demolition debris.
- Piling operations will commence on the eastern abutment (Span 1) progressing at approximately
2 piles per day.
- Alun Griffths’ pre-casting sub-contractor, will mobilise pre-casting operations
at Downton Industrial Estate. The casting and associated concreting activities are due to start on the
16th July.
- Implementation of Phase 1 of the diversionary scheme involving the “Headlands Junction”
and associated diversionary routes (delayed works), will be undertaken by Ringway Infrastructure Services.
