WILTSHIRE DOMESTIC VIOLENCE STRATEGY 2008-11
CONSULTATION DOCUMENT
Introduction:
A draft Wiltshire Domestic Violence Strategy has been published on 1st August 2008.  This strategy has been developed following on from the first County Domestic Violence strategy 2005-08 and the recent work looking into ‘The Development of Services for Victims and Perpetrators of Domestic Violence in Wiltshire’.  The Wiltshire Domestic Violence Delivery group are keen to gain as wide a view of the content as possible.  We therefore hope that you will take this opportunity to work with us on shaping the way Wiltshire tackles Domestic Violence over the next three years by sending us your comments on the draft strategy.

Your views on the draft strategy will help to ensure we have got all the right priorities for Wiltshire and we look forward to hearing from you.
All comments on the draft strategy must be received by 31st October 2008.

Consultation Questionnaire: Wiltshire Domestic Violence Strategy
Please complete the questionnaire below in relation to the draft Wiltshire Domestic Violence Strategy.

Please return your completed questionnaire by the 31st October 2008

  1. The principle objective of the Wiltshire Domestic Violence Strategy is to reduce the incidence of domestic violence and its impact in Wiltshire.  Do you think this is the right overall objective for the strategy?

  2. The underpinning principles of the strategy are to:

# To enhance partnership working to prevent and reduce the impact of Domestic Violence,  increasing the safety and well being of those living with it’s effects in Wiltshire.

#
The safety of victims and their families should be the primary consideration in service delivery, strategic development and implementation

# Perpetrators should be held accountable for their behaviour

# Building on the 2005-2008 strategy, future work should reflect the necessity for prevention and early intervention to reduce further harm, as well as the provision and accessibility to support for victims and increasing confidence in bringing perpetrators to justice.

# Domestic Violence cannot be tackled in isolation and a co-ordinated partnership approach is essential.  It is imperative that Domestic Violence is recognised as a strategic priority within individual agencies and resources appropriately.

Do you agree with these principles?

  3. We think that the priority areas should include:

# To work in partnership to meet the recognised needs of all victims in Wiltshire and ensure access to appropriate support and safeguarding interventions e.g. criminal, civil or support.
#
To recognise the needs of and provide support for children and young people whose lives are affected by Domestic Violence and to promote preventative approaches through early interventions
# To ensure individual perpetrators of Domestic Violence (convicted and non-convicted) are held accountable for their behaviour
# To increase awareness of the extent and impact of Domestic Violence across both the local community and across agencies
# To continue to improve the joint working between agencies, including information sharing and establish robust structures to enable a co-ordinated approach

Do you agree with these key priorities?

  4. In the Strategic Needs Assessment, we have described direct and in-direct service provision by agencies delivered across Wiltshire.  Is there anything that has been missed?

  5. The Business Case summarised the gaps in current service provision that have been incorporated into the Needs Assessment.  Is there anything missing from these gaps?
