Introduction to WSLR
Wiltshire and Swindon Learning Resources (WSLR) is a subscription-based service which lends a wide range of educational resources to schools in both the maintained and independent sectors and provides advice on the selection, organisation and use of resources within the school. WSLR's three key service lines are Books, Visual Resources and Audio-Visual Resources.
We are financed by participating schools, and operate in conjunction with Wiltshire County Council Department for Children and Education, Schools Branch, and Swindon Borough Council Children Services, School Improvement and Support.
WSLR offers an integrated range of multi-media resources. Teachers and pupils have differing styles of teaching and learning and through our diverse collections and varied resource formats we can help them all benefit as fully as possible.
Schools ‘join’ and subscribe subject to our standard terms and conditions, published in full on the WSLR website. Membership is for one full financial year – April to March – at a time, with exceptions for ‘trial’ memberships. Renewal is expected and is automatic (but with full scope to vary the options taken) unless three months’ notice has been given to cease service at the end of a school term.
Whole school membership entitles all teachers to access all resources in the categories subscribed for. We offer a range of options, so that each school can subscribe for exactly the resources that it needs.
Membership also brings entitlement to a number of core services and facilities – including access to the WSLR discount bookshop facility, arranged with our leading trade supplier, to enable schools to save more on the books they buy for themselves.
The individual teacher subscription option is available where whole-school membership is not required or not affordable.
Other options include: advisory services for those with school library responsibilities; audio-visual services to support school projects and productions; the Teaching Plan Support Service for teachers wanting one-to-one help with selecting the most appropriate resources; and an INSET programme – all offered on a ‘pay-as-you-use’ basis.
Details of options and prices are published annually and circulated to all schools. For additional copies, or in the event of queries, please contact WSLR at Trowbridge.
WSLR’s main base is in Trowbridge, open Monday to Thursday 8.30am to 5.20pm, 5.00pm on Fridays. To collect items set aside by prior request or to return resources, please just call in. To browse or select resources, or for help from our staff, please phone for an appointment.
We also have a small Resources Centre in Swindon where teachers can browse, select, collect and return books and other items. For information and opening times, please call us in Trowbridge.
