Hazardous waste

You can dispose of domestic, cement bonded asbestos at the Purton, Amesbury or Warminster Household Recycling Centre by appointment only. Do not take asbestos to any other HRC.

To make an appointment you should phone the below recycling centres between 10am and 4pm.

Make sure you do the following:

• take proof of address, such as photo ID
• make sure the cement bonded asbestos is from your property
• only bring up to 12 sheets of cement bonded asbestos. It can be no bigger than 1.5m x 2.5m. You should never break the asbestos to fit these dimensions
• make sure plastic is wrapped around the asbestos. This will help stop dust particles
• wear protective equipment, such as gloves, a mask (type FFP3) and overalls (type 5). You must dispose of these at the Household Recycling Centre afterwards. • you must bring along help if needed. Staff cannot help

Failure to comply with any of the points above may result in you not being able to dispose of your asbestos.

Wiltshire householders can take plasterboard to any Household Recycling Centre.

Small amounts of household chemicals can be taken to our Household Recycling Centres.

All paints, including oil-based, can be taken to our Household Recycling Centres for disposal. See Paint reuse scheme for more details.

Local NHS and council services lose thousands of pounds each year due to missing equipment. Any loan equipment should be returned when no longer used.

Batteries and all electrical items, large and small, can be taken to our Household Recycling Centres. We also collect batteries and small electricals alongside your household recycling. See Battery and small electricals collections for more information.

We cannot take fuel at our HRCs.

If you are unable to make use of fuel, you should take it to a petrol station. There are some companies that can help with hazardous waste removal that take fuel.

Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) canisters can be taken to our Household Recycling Centres. You may be able to get them refilled or recycled at a LPG supplier.
