Getting On Better

Harmful and helpful arguments: for parents

Harmful arguments can be bad for your relationship but helpful arguments can be good for it.

Arguments can be harmful or helpful, here's the difference:

Harmful arguments are when you or your partner:

  • try to win
  • say mean things
  • name-call
  • blame each other
  • are negative

Helpful arguments are when you or your partner:

  • work together
  • consider each other's feelings
  • are affectionate towards each other
  • solve problems together

We all need to have difficult conversations sometimes. The way you start these conversations will affect the way they go.
