Area Boards bring local decision-making to communities. They work with councils, local groups, and charities, hosting meetings and events to address community needs. Area Boards set priorities based on local data, provide grants, and aim to empower communities, making decisions together for effective local development.

Under the Public Health (Control of Diseases) Act 1984, when a resident in the area passes away (excluding in hospital) the Council has a duty to make arrangements for the funeral if living relatives cannot be found.
