Chippenham Public Spaces Protection Order

Wiltshire Council is proposing a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) in Chippenham town centre following reports of increased anti-social behaviour (ASB). A consultation on the proposed order is taking place between Monday 20 January and Sunday 2 March 2025.

PSPO is a tool available in the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, which provides wide-ranging tools and powers for local authorities to help tackle anti-social behaviour. The Act gives councils the authority to draft and implement PSPOs in response to ASB issues affecting their communities, provided certain criteria is met. The proposal is in response to a pattern of ASB in the town recorded by Wiltshire Police.

The proposed order will apply to the 'restricted area', which is the area shown in red on the map (PDF, 11 MB)(opens new window), including the town centre and John Coles Park. Wiltshire Police officers would be granted powers to reduce anti-social behaviour, focusing on the following issues:
