Information Governance

The Information Commissioner enforces and oversees:

  • Data Protection legislation

  • The Freedom of Information Act 2000

  • The Environmental Information Regulations 2004

  • The Privacy of Electronic Communications Regulation 2003

The Commissioner is a UK independent supervisory authority, which reports directly to the UK Parliament and has both an international and national role. It is not part of central or local government and is the regulatory authority for all processing of personal data.

Open data

As part of our commitment to be an open and transparent council, and to comply with the local government transparency code, we publish information about the council, our staff and what we spend as open data. This data is made public under the Open Government Licence, which encourages the 'use and re-use of the Information that is available under this licence freely and flexibly'.

This policy covers the treatment of personally identifiable information that Wiltshire Council collects when you are using the Wiltshire Council website, when you email us, or when you complete and submit an online form via our website.
