Some areas of Wiltshire have been identified by the Health Protection Agency and British Geological Survey as a Radon Affected Area. In light of the current information, precautions may be required under building regulations for new buildings and extensions to buildings in the area. An estimate of the probability that an existing individual property is above the action level for radon, and further guidance, can be obtained for a small fee from the UKradon (opens new window).
Informative: Radon Affected Areas are designated by the Health Protection Agency. It is recommended that the level of radon gas should be measured in all properties within Radon Affected Areas. The present owner or (for a new property) the builder should be asked whether protective measures were incorporated in the construction of the property; whether radon levels have been measured in the property; whether the levels were at or above the action level (prescribed by the HPA) and if so whether remedial measure where installed and whether the radon levels were re-tested and confirmed the effectiveness of the measures.
For properties within New Forest National Park, access to the planning records would be via the New Forest National Park Authority: Planning (opens new window) website.
