Mockingbird family model
The Mockingbird family model provides an outstanding support network for Wiltshire fostering families. We have been working closely with The Fostering Network (opens new window) on this new and exciting project and are proud to have launched our first constellation of eight fostering families in June 2024.
Mockingbird family model in brief
The aim of the model is to provide a support network like that of an extended family, providing children and their fostering families with support, shared social opportunities, sleepovers (where appropriate) and the opportunity for everyone to build long lasting relationships.
Why Mockingbird family model has been introduced
At Wiltshire Council, we believe in providing the best service possible for our foster carers and the children they care for. We have introduced the Mockingbird family model as it has the potential to improve the long-term prospects for children and young people to stay within their fostering families and for everyone to become part of a strong, nurturing and long-lasting community network.
How Mockingbird family model works
Foster carers have the opportunity to be part of a 'constellation' of up to ten fostering families, supported by an experienced and welcoming 'hub home' foster carer. The hub foster carer supports all the constellation families by offering support and advice, sleepovers and social activities. The model is structured to empower families to support each other and overcome problems before they escalate.
