Healthier communities

Following the latest Government announcement of further national restrictions being introduced from Thursday (5 November), including the closure of gyms, leisure centres and suspension of community physical activity and sport delivery, Wiltshire Council's sports development sessions will be temporarily suspended from Thursday 5 November.

Healthier Communities is a 3-year project funded by Sport England which will offer sport and physical activity opportunities to residents in the heart of ten communities within Wiltshire.

Sessions will focus on fun, social activities that offer participants the health benefits associated with being active on a regular basis. The ten delivery locations are:

  • Trowbridge - Studley Green
  • Trowbridge - Seymour
  • Trowbridge - Longfield
  • Salisbury - The Friary
  • Salisbury - Bemerton Heath
  • Melksham North - North East
  • Melksham North - South West
  • Chippenham - Queens
  • Calne - Abberd

The project is aimed at people living in these communities who are aged 16 to 74 years old and will help support them to become more active together. The type of activities offered through the Healthier Communities project will be suitable for those who are not active on a regular basis and who want to improve their health but are unsure where to start.

All sessions will be held in local facilities within target communities and will be available at an affordable cost to participants.
