Order and collect service

Discover your next great read handpicked by library staff.  From September, Amesbury, Bradford-on-Avon, Calne, Malmesbury, Marlborough, Melksham, Royal Wootton Bassett and Westbury libraries will offer an Order and Collect service.

Library members can sign up for Order and Collect by completing an order form or phoning the library during the hours listed below.  You will be able to place an order online from a week before your library's launch date. Our staff will choose books for you to enjoy based on your preferences and contact you to arrange a convenient time for you to collect them from the library entrance. Audiobooks can be selected if you have an audiobook subscription or membership exemption. We are sorry we are not able to take requests for specific books or titles through this form, as books will be selected from the stock held within the library you choose to collect from. Books are loaned for three weeks and will need to be renewed if you wish to keep them longer. They can be returned through the library letter box at any time.

If you wish to reserve a specific book, we have relaunched our reservation service. Books can be reserved online from libraries across Wiltshire for 95p (free for children's items) using the library catalogue. Reservations can also be placed by phoning the library.  When the book arrives, you'll be contacted to arrange a convenient time for you to collect it from the library entrance.

Computer bookings

Computers can be used for 45 minutes, these sessions must be booked in advance. They can be booked by phoning the relevant library during the hours listed below. You'll be asked to provide your contact details as part of COVID-19 NHS test and trace, we would encourage you to provide these when asked. Please observe social distancing guidelines and wear a face covering when using the computers.

Library staff will only be able to provide limited help to customers using the computers, whilst maintaining social distancing rules. If you need help using the computer, please bring someone with you to support you and let staff know when you book so that they can book you on to a computer with additional space.

Frequently asked questions

Why can't I browse the shelves at the libraries offering order and collect?

Social distancing measures, our current resources and financial pressures mean that we aren't currently in a position to offer the same service during the COVID-19 pandemic as before. We hope to allow browsing in these libraries soon but, in the meantime, this mix of approaches allows additional libraries to reopen and provides increased coverage across the county sooner than would be possible with only a browsable service.

If I find a book I'm interested in and the online library catalogue says it's available at my local library, can I ask for it using the order and collect form?

We're not able to take requests for specific books through the order and collect form.  If you wish to reserve a specific book, books can be reserved online for 95p (free for children's items) using the library catalogue. It is hoped that the libraries offering order and collect will be able to allow browsing soon.

My children and I are avid readers.  Can we have 12 books on each of our cards?

You can order 20 books per family, as we want to keep as much choice available as possible for our borrowers. There are no restrictions on how frequently you can use this service so you can return items and order more as often as you wish without waiting for the three-week loan period to end.

Can I order DVDs through the order and collect form?

DVDs are hired out for a week for a small hire charge and so are not part of the free order and collect service. If you wish to reserve a specific DVD, DVDs can be reserved online from libraries across Wiltshire for 95p using the Library catalogue. Reservations can also be placed by phoning the library. When the DVD arrives, you'll be contacted to arrange a convenient time for you to collect it from the library entrance.

What if I need to change my time or I miss my collection slot?

Please let the library know as soon as possible if you need to change your time or you miss your slot. You can either call the library during its open hours or email libraryenquiries@wiltshire.gov.uk with the details of the library that the slot was booked at.

What if I have read the books that have been selected for me?

We regret that we are unable to change titles for you at the collection point due to COVID-19 safety procedures. Please place any unwanted items in the letterbox and staff will remove them from your card after a quarantine period of 72 hours. When you next place an order, you can provide further details of your preferences in the final box of the form.  You can use our normal reservation service if there are specific titles that you'd like. Requests cost 95p (free for children's items).

Can I use the photocopier?

It's not possible for you to use the photocopier, as the library has reopened for order and collect and bookable computers only, but you can book to use one of our computers with a scanner to scan and print documents. Computer printouts cost 10p per sheet.

How many computer sessions can I have each day?

You can have one pre-booked 45 minute computer session per day across Wiltshire libraries.
