The improvement works being carried out at Castle Street in Trowbridge, as part of the government's £16 million investment in the town centre via the Future High Streets Fund, are continuing well with completion still on schedule for the end of November 2023.

During this final period, access to enable residents and businesses to enter and exit their property may be temporarily restricted due to the type of works being carried out. The contractor will make every effort to minimise this, although some disruption will be inevitable.

From Wednesday 1 November 2023, access to businesses at the southern end of Castle Street up to and including the car wash will be via Longfield gyratory and Court Street roundabout.

Access to businesses at the northern end of Castle Street up to and including the toy shop car park will be from the Market Street junction.

Access to Market Street and Fore Street will be via the signed diversion route.

Dedicated traffic management operatives will monitor access and give motorists and pedestrians assistance as required.

Cllr Caroline Thomas, Wiltshire Council's Cabinet Member for Transport, said: "As we move to the latter stages of this scheme, the traffic management arrangements need to change to accommodate the remaining works. Our contractor continues to regularly liaise with all local businesses to keep them up to date on the works. We would like to remind everyone that all businesses are open as usual and pedestrian access to these businesses will continue to be maintained at all times. We hope these changes will make it easier to access some of those businesses who have been impacted by these works.

"One of the council's key priorities is to create vibrant and well-connected communities. We fully recognise that these improvement works are causing some disruption to local people and businesses, and we apologise for the inconvenience. We will have dedicated traffic management operatives on site looking after the safety of road users and the workforce, so please speak to them if you have any concerns about access."

The works still to be carried out on this scheme include resurfacing the road between Court Street roundabout and Market Street, additional ancillary work to the pedestrian crossing and enhancing the footpath on either side of Castle Street from Court Street roundabout to Market Street.
