It's the start of a new school year, and for a lot of people September means back to routine and normality. Wiltshire leisure centres are encouraging residents to spend the month focussing on self-improvement.

National Fitness Day 2022 takes place today, Wednesday 21 September, with a call for the UK to prioritise physical health to support mental strength, under the theme of 'Fitness Unites Us'.

This year the campaign will encourage people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to come together to recognise the importance of prioritising being active for our mental wellbeing as well as physical health. It is set to be the UK's most active day of the year and to encourage people to unite through fitness, all leisure centre members can bring a friend for free and take the first step to living a more active life.

Cllr Ian Blair-Pilling, Cabinet Member for Leisure said, "Wiltshire Council leisure centres offer a range of activities throughout the twenty centres across the county: including group exercise class, swimming sessions and fitness suites.

"Why not take the opportunity to join one of our centres or bring a friend with you and set a goal or challenge and use that as motivation to spur you on - whether it's to be more active on more days or a to sign up for an event. You could even take part in one of our monthly gym challenges - this month we are making a collective effort to travel the distance around the world by combining the distances achieved on our cardio machines plus swimming activities across all of our centres.

"It's incredibly important to remember to make time for yourself, ensuring you are happy means that you are better positioned to support others. Whatever it is you do this month, do it for you and do something that makes you happy!"

For Online Leisure Bookings (opens new window) or other leisure activity, people should contact their local leisure centre.
