The total Wiltshire electorate has been confirmed for the upcoming elections on 6 May.

In total, 381,454 people from the Wiltshire Council area are registered to have their say in the upcoming unitary, town and parish, and Police and Crime Commissioner elections - all which take place on 6 May. There are also a number of neighbourhood plan referendums.

Of the total electorate, 70,733 are registered to vote by post. If people want to appoint someone to vote on their behalf (a proxy) they need to complete an application form that must be received by the Returning Officer by 5pm on 27 April . Forms can be scanned and emailed to (opens new window) or posted to County Hall, Trowbridge. More information can be found on the Government proxy application page (opens new window).

Postal vote packs are currently being sent out to people who have applied to vote by post. People are encouraged to post these back as soon as possible when they have received them, rather than wait until polling day and attend the polling station to hand them in.

Terence Herbert, Wiltshire Council Chief Executive, and Returning Officer for Wiltshire, said:

Now that people are registered, we want as many of them as possible to have their say in these important elections.

The results of the unitary, town and parish, and Police and Crime Commissioner elections will have an impact on people's day to day lives so it's important everyone registered exercises their democratic rights.

It's obviously a new and challenging experience to host elections during a pandemic but our preparation to make them as safe as possible is making good progress, and we looking forward to welcoming people to vote on 6 May.
