Severe weather emergency provisions triggered

Published 17 January 2020

We have a statutory duty to provide Severe Weather Emergency Provisions (SWEP) to anyone who is sleeping rough when the weather is predicted to fall to 0 degrees or below for three consecutive nights.

We've triggered those provisions with temperatures forecast to remain at zero or below until next week, based on current predictions. As a result overnight accommodation is being offered for those affected and individuals can attend the council's housing options hubs as soon as possible for help and support.

We have advice hubs at Monkton Park in Chippenham, County Hall in Trowbridge and Bourne Hill in Salisbury. We work with partner agencies to support individuals, not just during the worst weather but also by looking at longer term housing solutions as part of this process.

During work hours, the advice service can be contacted on Chippenham 01249 706666, Trowbridge 01225 718005 or Salisbury 01722 434233 but after 5pm, contact the Emergency Team on 0300 456 0100.
