Another fly-tipper issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice for dumping waste at Devizes' former slaughterhouse
A £400 Fixed Penalty Notice has been issued to a former Devizes resident, for fly-tipping
Wiltshire Council has issued a £400 Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN) for fly-tipping to a former Devizes resident, who dumped household waste on the former slaughterhouse land on the corner of Coate Road and Windsor Drive, Devizes. This is the second £400 fine issued in recent months for people dumping waste at this location.
As the land is privately owned, the council has been in regular communication with the landowner, and has served a Section 59 Notice under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 that compelled the landowner to clear their land of waste and take steps to prevent further fly-tipping on the site. The landowner has since cleared their land of all waste and is working with the council to erect no fly-tipping signage and restrict access to the site.
Cllr Dr Mark McClelland, Cabinet Member for Waste, said: We are committed to combating the issue of fly-tipping in Wiltshire, as evidenced by the recent increase in Fixed Penalty Notices, prosecutions and vehicle seizures we have secured.
In this case, the household recycling centre was less than a five-minute drive from the Old Slaughterhouse where this waste could have easily been disposed of lawfully by the householder. Instead, it was fly-tipped, which shows a complete disregard for the environment.
We want to send a clear message to the inconsiderate minority that we will fine or prosecute if you are caught dumping rubbish illegally.
Once an FPN is issued, the recipients cannot be named as it's not a conviction in court.
