Applications for Vacant Commercial Units scheme in Trowbridge closes soon
Applications for a grant scheme to bring empty commercial spaces in Trowbridge town centre back into use will close at 5pm on Monday 31 July 2023.

Applications for a grant scheme to bring empty commercial spaces in Trowbridge town centre back into use will close at 5pm on Monday 31 July 2023.
The scheme encourages commercial property owners, business owners, directors or landlords in Trowbridge town centre to make better use of vacant units to enable a more diverse and sustainable mix of uses within the heart of the town.
The grant funding comes from the £16 million awarded to Trowbridge from the Government's Future High Streets Fund which aims to renew and reshape the high street in a way that improves the experience, drives growth and ensures future sustainability.
Cllr Richard Clewer, Leader of Wiltshire Council, said: We are really pleased with the level of interest shown in this scheme and the high quality of the proposals and schemes coming forward. Of the 27 applications received so far, we have 16 schemes approved and most are in contract. We also have a further 5 schemes which are working towards approval and will be in contract within the next few months
This initiative is already having a positive impact on the town centre with 3 vacant units successfully reopened; the Screening Room (boutique cinema) in Parade House in Fore Street, Eden Beauty & Aesthetics, at St Georges Works and HP Pitt Garden Shop in Silver Street. Another unit will reopen in the next few weeks followed by several more towards the end of this summer. We are really pleased these businesses are doing well and helping to create a positive vibe that things are changing for the better in town centre.
We did originally state that the closing date for applications for this £1.9 million scheme was 24 November 2023, however it would close sooner if the funds set aside was committed to projects beforehand. As we have such a healthy pipeline of projects, and we are nearing our budget ceiling we are announcing that the deadline for receipt of applications has been brought forward to 31 July 2023. In the Autumn, the grant panel will make decisions on the applications received and the remaining funds available so there is a fair process for everyone who wishes to apply.
We would encourage everyone who is considering this scheme to submit their application before the deadline (31 July 2023) and help provide a greater town centre experience for residents and visitors encouraging them to keep coming back, supporting business growth, and ensuring Trowbridge town centre is a destination of choice and one which residents and visitors choose to visit to shop, relax and meet up with their friends and family.
