The Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre is closed for alteration work from today (4 December 2023) to 8 January 2024. This only affects archives and local studies services, other services operating from the premises will continue as normal, including the Conservation and Museum Advisory Service, Registration Service Copy Certificates and Archaeology services.
The alteration work will see improvements made to the layout and functionality of the help desk, search room and reception areas to improve ease of use and services available to customers.
Cllr Richard Clewer, Leader of Wiltshire Council and Cabinet Member for Heritage, said: "Unfortunately it is necessary to close the history centre to undertake these improvements works, so to minimise the impact we've scheduled the works for December and the first week of January, which are traditionally the centre's least busiest times.
"In the meantime, I would encourage anyone with an enquiry to make use of our remote service by contacting the team at archives@wiltshire.gov.uk (opens new window). We look forward to welcoming people back to an improved history centre in the new year."
The Wiltshire and Swindon History centre is jointly funded by Wiltshire Council and Swindon Borough Council.
