Christmas 2022 opening times for Wiltshire Council services

Wiltshire Council services and opening times will vary over the Christmas and New Year period.

On Friday 23 December many council services will be closed. All council services and facilities will be closed on Sunday 25 December, Monday 26 December, Tuesday 27 December and Monday 2 January.

Customer Services/hub buildings:

All customer service desks and hub buildings will be closed on Friday 23 December, Monday 26 December, Tuesday 27 December and Monday 2 January.

Opening times for Wednesday 28 December - Friday 30 December will be 9am to 5pm. Although the main reception desks will be staffed during this period, hub staffing is likely to be limited. Opening hours will return to normal from Tuesday 3 January.

Waste collections:

Waste and recycling collections will be delayed by one day over the Christmas period, with waste collection crews not working Monday 26 December. Full details can be found at

Garden waste collections will cease for two weeks over the Christmas period, with last collections taking place on Friday 23 December. Collections will then resume from Monday 9 January 2023.

People who pay to have their garden waste collected can present a real Christmas tree, alongside their garden waste bin, on their first collection in January.

Household Recycling Centres:

Household Recycling Centres (HRC) will open as normal on Friday 23 December. Christmas opening hours will apply from Saturday 24 December and these can be viewed at .

Normal opening hours will resume from Monday 2 January 2023.

Leisure centres:

All council operated leisure centres will be closed Sunday 25 December to Tuesday 27 December, plus Sunday 1 January 2023 and Monday 2 January.

Libraries:

All libraries will close from 1pm Saturday 24 December to Tuesday 27 December, plus Monday 2 January.

Between 28 December - 30 December they will open as normal, with the exception that libraries that would normally be open in the evening will close at 5pm. Information about individual libraries can be found: Library locations and opening times - Wiltshire Council

All libraries will be open as normal on Saturday 31 December with exception of the Campus libraries at Corsham, Melksham, Tidworth and Tisbury which will close at 1pm.

Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre:

Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre is operating normal hours between 19 December - 2 January, with the exception of Friday 23 December and Tuesday 27 December where it will be closed. Full details and normal operating hours can be found at www.wshc.org.uk (opens new window).  

Registration offices in Chippenham, Salisbury and Trowbridge:

Registration offices in Chippenham, Salisbury and Trowbridge will be open on Friday 23 December for ceremonies and by appointment only.

All registration offices will be closed Saturday 24 December to Tuesday 27 December, plus Sunday 1 January 2023 and Monday 2 January.

Between 28 December to 30 December registration offices will be open as normal. No appointments will be available Saturday 31 December, but ceremonies will take place as scheduled.
