Church Street/Union Street works restart in the new year

Following a break for Christmas, the improvement works taking place at the junction of Church Street and Union Street in Trowbridge will restart again on Tuesday 3 January 2023.

Works will continue on Phase C which will include widening and paving of the footpath on the eastern side of Union Street between the Wiltshire Islamic Cultural Centre and the junction with Church Street. Works will move on to Phase D mid-January which focuses on Church Street, including the widening and paving of the footpath outside St James Church on Church Street.

Cllr Dr Mark McClelland, Cabinet Member for Transport, Waste, Street Scene and Flooding, said: "We made good progress last year and it's great to see the first of the pedestrian improvement schemes in the town centre taking shape. We're hoping this will continue over the next few months, although progress is very much dependent on the weather as low temperatures will influence what kind of activities can take place.

"In our business plan we pledged to have well-connected communities. The funding from the government's Future High Streets Fund is supporting this pledge as it aims to improve the ease and safety of pedestrian crossings as well as improve walking and cycling routes in key locations in the town centre. We look forward to this current scheme completing at the end of February 2023 and the next one starting in the new financial year."

Also from Tuesday 3 January 2023, the on-street parking in Church Street will be suspended to ensure the working area can be safely accommodated as well as keeping Church Street open to traffic. All businesses will be open as usual. All properties surrounding the scheme are being kept up to date on the works through letter drops.
