Climate change Halloween event and climate lunch at Devizes library

The first event will be a Halloween themed recycled craft activity and some spooky stories for 4-7 year olds on Wednesday 26 October from 10.30am to 12 noon.  This will be followed by a climate lunch on Friday 28 October from 12 noon to 1.30pm where people are encouraged to bring their lunch to the library and join in with helpful conversations on climate change, carbon reduction and green issues.

Jen Gale, author of The Sustainable(ish) Living Guide and The Sustainable(ish) guide to green parenting, will be visiting on Saturday 30 October at 10.30am to talk about easy, down to earth ideas and suggestions for everyone to help save the planet.

Josh Lacey, children's author of the Hope Jones series, will be meeting local school children in the library on Thursday 10 November. This event is by invitation only.

A range of fiction, gardening, cookery, DIY and craft books on the theme of climate change are available in Devizes library to borrow. A climate change booklist can be found on the library catalogue at https://libraries.wiltshire.gov.uk/web/arena/suggested-reads (opens new window).

Cllr Ian Blair-Pilling, Cabinet Member for Libraries said; "Wiltshire Council is committed to tackling climate change and playing our part in reducing emissions.  We are leading the way as a Council over our own emissions, but we will only succeed as a council if we bring people with us.

"We were very pleased to be one of only 15 projects nationally to receive a grant from the Green Libraries Fund to enable this project to take place at Devizes Library in partnership with Sustainable Devizes.

"The project plays an important part in engaging residents, young and old, enabling them to find out more about climate change, carbon reduction, green issues and the part they can play in reducing carbon emissions.

The Green Libraries Partnership members are the Arts Council England, British Library, CILIP - Library and Information Association, Julia's Bicycle and Libraries Connected.
