Wiltshire Council is giving people the opportunity to find out more about the progress of the major project to repair the B4069 Lyneham Banks at a public webinar on Monday 24 April from 6pm-7pm.
The online event is open to anyone with an interest in the scheme, and will feature a short presentation and project update from engineers working to fix the road, followed by an open question and answer session.
Anyone who signs up for the event will be able to submit questions in advance, or they can ask questions on the night. The event will be recorded and published to YouTube afterwards for anyone who is unable to attend, and a copy of questions and answers will be published on the Lyneham Banks webpage.
The B4069 at Lyneham Banks has been subject to an emergency closure since February 2022 after a major land slip caused significant damage to the highway, sending sections more than 25 metres down the hillside. Since then, the council has completed ground investigations, and the data collected is being used to gain a greater understanding of how and why the substructure failed, which will inform the design options for repairing the road.
Cllr Caroline Thomas, Cabinet Member for Transport, said: "We appreciate how difficult the closure of the B4069 Lyneham Banks has been for the local community, and we have been working hard to both mitigate the traffic issues that the closure has caused and understand what is necessary to repair the road as quickly as possible.
"However, solving this huge problem and rebuilding the road is a major undertaking of significant scale, and it is presenting several engineering challenges. In particular, because the ground has continued to move, it has been difficult to get both people and machinery to work on the site safely, which is of paramount importance.
"We now have data from the ground investigations and design work is under way to understand the options. This webinar is a great opportunity for anyone with an interest in the project to find out more and have their questions answered."
