Cycling and walking consultation in Melksham and Calne extended

Published 9 January 2024

Wiltshire Council has extended the closing date for its consultation on Melksham and Calne Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plans (LCWIPs) to give more people the opportunity to respond.

The consultation will now close on Monday 5 February.

LCWIPs outline strategies for improving cycling and walking routes and are a foundation for future improvements and potential funding from the Department for Transport. The council has already created a Wiltshire-wide LCWIP for inter-urban routes, plus plans for Salisbury, Chippenham, Devizes, and Trowbridge, with more to come.

This is the first stage of consultation for the Melksham and Calne LCWIPs, and as such the council hopes for input from Calne and Melksham residents to shape the plans and to enhance local walking and cycling networks.

Cllr Caroline Thomas, Cabinet Member for Transport, said: As this consultation spanned the Christmas break, we wanted to give people in Melksham and Calne more time to respond, which is why we've extended the closing date to Monday 5 February.

We have committed to promoting more walking and cycling in our Business Plan, and these LCWIPs aim to identify cycling and walking networks that would make travel by foot or bike easier, while improving air quality, reducing traffic congestion, and cutting carbon emissions.

To find out more and have their say, people should go to the Commonplace: Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plans in Calne and Melksham (opens new window).
