Council sprinting towards 1 October as final preparations underway for leisure centres transition
Ten of the county's leisure centres will be transferring to Wiltshire Council
There are now just a few weeks to go until Wiltshire Council brings all of its leisure centres under its own management.
The council currently operates 10 leisure centres in the county, with a further 10 leisure centres that are managed by Places Leisure, on behalf of the council. The 10 leisure centres run by Places Leisure will transition over to Wiltshire Council from 1 October.
The council wants to provide a consistent service across the county, which will help to support and improve the physical and mental health and wellbeing of its communities. When the transfer has completed there will be many benefits to customers in the future, including being able to offer a broader range of memberships and more concessionary rates.
Cllr Ian Blair-Pilling, Wiltshire Council Cabinet Member for Leisure, said:
We're putting the final arrangements in place and our staff are really looking forward to welcoming residents on 1 October, to help them maintain and improve their health and wellbeing.
We are aiming to keep our offer as consistent as possible, and although some of the leisure members who will transfer over will notice some differences, they can rest assured that we will continue to provide them with high-quality services and facilities.
The last eighteen months have tested the physical and mental health of many, and we hope our services can really make a positive difference to people's lives.
The leisure centres that will move from Places Leisure to Wiltshire Council management are:
- Bradford on Avon Swimming Pool
- Castle Place Leisure Centre, Trowbridge
- Lime Kiln Leisure Centre, Royal Wootton Bassett
- Leighton Recreation Centre, Westbury
- Melksham Blue Pool
- The Activity Zone, Malmesbury
- The Olympiad, Chippenham
- Trowbridge Sports Centre
- Warminster Sports Centre
- Westbury Swimming Pool
Places Leisure staff, approximately 410, will transfer across to Wiltshire Council and will become council employees.
Leisure members will be contacted directly regarding their memberships in due course. More information, including FAQs can be found on our leisure pages at .
