Marlborough library is to temporarily close to the public to allow for urgent floor repairs.

The building is set to close from Monday 12 June, for building repair works expected to take four to six weeks. The works will see the repair and replacement of a large section of the wooden floor timbers, located within the public area of the library building.

During the works, Marlborough library staff will offer an order and collect service from the front door for customers to continue to borrow and return books. This will be operated from a section of the building that is unaffected by the repairs.

All books from Marlborough Library due back during the closure period will have their return date extended until the library reopens, but people are also able to return books through the letterbox at any time.

Customers wishing to use the Order and Collect service can contact the library team and let them know the kind of books they enjoy by contacting the library on 01672 512663. Library staff will then select 12 books on the person's behalf, and when the books are available will contact the person to arrange collection. Books will be loaned for three weeks before they will need to be returned or renewed. Further details can also be found at https://libraries.wiltshire.gov.uk/web/arena/welcome (opens new window).

The public computers and printing services will be unavailable for the duration of the works.

Cllr Ian Blair-Pilling, Cabinet Member for Libraries, said: We are sorry that we are having to temporarily close Marlborough library. Unfortunately, this was a necessary decision due to the location where the repairs are needed to ensure the safety of both the library users and our contractors.

We are pleased that the public will still be able to borrow and return their books with the order and collect service being run in the interim. There is also a range of digital services that people can use, and of course residents will be very warmly welcomed at any of our other libraries should they wish to pay them a visit. We thank everyone for their patience while these urgent works take place.
