Wiltshire Council has completed its schedule of Highways Matters events, with more than 1,000 people from around the county attending to have their say.
The 18 events, one for each Area Board, have been held over several months, with attendees having the opportunity to find out more about the work the council is doing on its highways and transport network, including asset management and maintenance, public transport, flood prevention, potholes and much more.
People could also ask questions of both councillors and officers - the council representatives answered more than 700 written questions, with many more verbal questions answered at the events.
Cllr Nick Holder, Cabinet Member for Highways, said: "We know that people across the county are passionate about our road network, and that's why we took our Highways Matters events out across Wiltshire, giving people the chance to find out more, have their say and ask us questions about the local highways issues that matter to them.
"The 18 events were a huge success, with more than 1,000 people attending and asking questions, which is a fantastic response, and we hope these attendees found it worthwhile.
"While councils around the county are cutting budgets, we are exceeding our Business Plan commitments by investing millions into the highways issues that matter to people. We have invested an extra £11m into resurfacing roads, filling potholes and emptying gullies to help prevent road flooding, plus more than £1.5m into painting white lines, renewing road signs, tackling fly-tipping and cleaning up litter.
"I'd also like to pay tribute to my predecessor, Cllr Caroline Thomas, who attended many of these events and answered scores of questions from our communities. Although these events have now come to an end, we will continue to engage with our communities on their highways and transport concerns."
Anyone who missed the events can read all the questions and answers in the minutes of their area board's Highways Matters event at: Committee structure (opens new window).
