People can take steps to improve mental health by taking part in free activities and finding out more about support available at an information fair this May.

Wiltshire Council is hosting the Mental Health Information Fair at County Hall in Trowbridge on Monday 13 May from 10am to 4pm.

The event, which is part of a range of activities for national Mental Health Awareness Week (opens new window), will involve more than a dozen stalls offering advice and signposting to support people's mental wellbeing.

Wiltshire Council's leisure services team will be at the fair showing off ways to move and stay fit physically and mentally in line with the national theme for the week of moving more for our mental health.

Wiltshire Council's Health Coaches (opens new window) will be offering advice on healthy eating, support to give up smoking and reduce drinking, and carrying out individual health checks. The team offer free support to businesses as part of the work in the community.

Other participants include Wiltshire libraries, Wiltshire Wildlife Trust, Alzheimer Support Wiltshire and Wiltshire and Swindon Sport (WASP (opens new window)).

In partnership Wiltshire Council public health teams are joining leisure colleagues and Wiltshire And Swindon Sport (WASP) to promote physical activities to improve mental wellbeing throughout the week.

Cllr Ian Blair-Pilling, Cabinet Member for Public Health said: "These days we are all more aware of our mental health and the need to take steps to improve it. I would love people to drop in to talk to the range of groups and organisations - be it about exercising for mental health or how to stay healthy as a carer of someone. We will of course also be sharing lots of positive information online and we will be using the hashtag #MoveMoreWiltshire. This aligns with our Business Plan to empower people to live full, healthy, and enriched lives.

"We are joining together to promote how we can all stay healthy both in mind and body. A key thing for people to know is 'you're not alone.' There are steps you can take now to improve your physical health and wellbeing."
