More people will be supported to get back into work after facing challenges or periods unemployed thanks to funding secured by Wiltshire Council.
The Building Bridges programme will be led by charity Community First and will offer support to working-aged people to help them be ready for work, train up with skills, and build resilience and independence. It will provide support to improve basic skills, linking with the Multiply programme to help gain confidence in numbers and maths.
The programme will help people who have significant barriers to education and employment, including those affected by long-term unemployment, post-addiction issues, poor health, ex-offending, or those with disabilities. It will help people move towards employment, healthier living and social inclusion.
Wiltshire Council's UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) allocation has been used to replace the National Lottery and European Social Fund in financing this programme. The previous Building Bridges programme helped 1,942 people over its six and a half years of operation.
Cllr Laura Mayes, Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, said: "This is targeted funding which will ensure people who need support can move from the world of 'nothing will change' to 'I'm supported to make the changes.' There are many people out there who, because of past history or decisions, feel they are stuck in a rut and have nowhere to go. Building Bridges is a programme that does just that - it makes what may seem impossible possible. I'm pleased that we are targeted this funding in a way that has a proven track record to make a difference."
Lynn Gibson, Chief Executive for Community First said: "We thank Wiltshire Council for the support given through the Shared Prosperity Fund which will allow Building Bridges to continue its support. We are really proud to be able to continue this important work which has helped to transform people's lives, prospects and confidence. Two-thirds of the people supported have achieved outcomes into employment, education and job searching but the programme is also about helping people build their confidence, skills and wellbeing."
