The current phase of enhancements being carried out at Castle Street in Trowbridge, as part of the £16 million investment from the government's Future High Streets Fund, are progressing well.
From Monday 14 to Friday 18 August 2023, the road will be resurfaced meaning a road closure will be in place on Mortimer Street between Longfield roundabout and Castle Street between the hours of 7pm and midnight.
These works will also cover part of St Stephens Place and Court Street. More information is available on One.Network.
Access for residents and businesses will be maintained although delays are possible. A signed diversion route will be in place and visitors to the St Stephens Place leisure complex may need to follow this signed diversion to gain access. Alternatively, visitors may wish to consider parking in East Wing and access the complex on foot.
From Tuesday 29 August, works will move to the next phase which covers the area from the Court Street roundabout to Market Street junction. The works will involve widening the footpath on the western side and to continue paving works on both sides of Castle Street. Street lighting improvements and road surfacing will also take place.
This phase will require a road closure for the duration of the works which is expected to continue into November. Further information on the timing for this will be provided shortly. However, a signed diversion route will be in place and access arrangements to the car wash and other businesses will be maintained and clearly signed. All businesses will remain open as usual.
Cllr Caroline Thomas, Wiltshire Council's Cabinet Member for Transport, said: "It is great to see the Castle Street improvements progressing so well with the first phase of this scheme completing towards the end of the week.
"A key priority of ours is to create vibrant and well-connected communities so we're really pleased that the second phase of this scheme can start at the end of August.
"We appreciate there will be some disruption, and we apologise for any inconvenience caused. Every effort will be made to keep this disruption to a minimum wherever possible, and all local amenities in this area will remain open and accessible during the construction period."
